Check Engine is not just about standard engines, it’s also about customising them for maximum performance. Over the last few weeks, we’ve created THE drift car… based on a Porsche Cayman 3.4, we’ve created a compressed 4L (compressor ’92A’ from the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid). From 320bhp, we’ve gone up to 500bhp! Add to that a NOS kit, remove 200kg, and you get an explosive result, the CAYMAN K. While Check Engine knows how to rebuild engines, we also have the capacity to innovate, invent and support you in your wildest projects… DISCOVER OUR NEWS ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE MECHANICAL PARTS FOR SMALL PRODUCTION RUNS Man and machine, that’s our motto. Man and machine, that’s our motto. Putting technology at the service of traditional crafts may seem like a paradox, but it makes perfect sense with Check Engine. Thanks to our latest-generation digital lathe, we can now manufacture small series of automotive mechanical parts to give new life to engines whose parts are no longer available or are prohibitively expensive (valve guides, connecting rod rings, custom-made cast iron liners, etc.). When a part doesn’t exist, we make it, and the chain doesn’t stop! No more subcontracting, control of the production chain, optimised quality, controlled budgets and deadlines! At CHECK ENGINE, man and machine are no longer in competition, but rather inseparable forces… DISCOVER OUR NEWS MECHANICAL PARTS FOR SMALL PRODUCTION RUNS AMERICAN V8S The American V8, which is also very common in our workshops, is closer to the HGV than the light vehicle. The American V8, which is also very common in our workshops, is closer to the HGV than the light vehicle. Far from popular belief, the reliability of this type of vehicle is also not beyond reproach, but our specialist surgeons will be able to restore its strength and vigour! Jeep, Dodge RAM TRX, Raptor or Shelby were the last patients whose ailments were varied: connecting rod bearings, damaged pistons or worn valve seats, but our final diagnosis often comes down to poor ethanol management… So please be very careful! Just in case… Check Engine will find a solution! DISCOVER OUR NEWS AMERICAN V8S ENGINE GRINDING At Check Engine, rectification and optimisation are part of our daily routine. The 330bhp V6 is far more fun to drive than the diesel, thanks to a charismatic soundtrack that is truly worthy of a Maserati, especially once the ‘Sport’ button has been pressed. Both petrol engines have an overboost, so they deliver excellent acceleration from the lowest revs, despite weighing in at 1,810 kg. Even though the steering is hydraulically assisted, it doesn’t feel very communicative, but it’s precise enough not to detract from driving pleasure. The Skyhook active shock absorbers, with two settings (optional or standard depending on version), proved highly effective in smoothing out the rough Italian tarmac on our test roads. All Ghibli models benefit from an excellent driving position, supportive seats and a dashboard that is both attractive and ergonomic, much more so than on other Maseratis.

To ensure its commercial success in Europe, the new Levante will be powered by a 275 bhp V6 diesel engine. All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Q4 all-wheel drive. Built on an advanced platform from the Ghibli and Quattroporte, the Levante’s chassis is based on double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear. Maserati has announced a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution and the lowest centre of gravity in the segment. To ensure a sporty dynamic worthy of its name, the Levante can also count on a mechanical self-locking differential at the rear and air suspension as standard with 5 levels of adjustment.

With the Karif, Maserati is returning to a tradition that began with the Mistral and was put aside when the Biturbo came out: wind names, with the Karif (or Kharif) blowing across the Gulf of Aden. To understand what the Karif is, it’s not complicated: just imagine a reinforced Spyder hull to which a steel hard-top has been welded. The overall shape is that of the 222 E, with twin tailpipes and four square headlamps. Two small seats were available at the rear, allowing it to be homologated as a four-seater, but Maserati’s sales literature rightly referred to it as a ‘berlinetta’. The interior of the 222 was not a complete success and Maserati understood this by keeping only the good parts and improving the others.
