SANT'AGATA 1963 - Today / Italy

In July 1963, a sign was erected at Via Modena 12, in the municipality of Sant’Agata Bolognese, less than 30 km from Pieve di Cento, announcing “Qui Stabilimento Lamborghini Automobile” (The Lamborghini Automobile Factory). Automobili Lamborghini was officially founded on 30 October 1963.
There were many reasons why Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to found his car manufacturing company in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Having signed a financial agreement with the town’s Communist majority, Lamborghini would not have to pay tax on the company’s profits for the first ten years of production. In return, the workers will be able to join a union. What’s more, the town is at the heart of a region with a long history of car manufacturing, so Lamborghini will have easy access to experienced car manufacturers and bodybuilders.
Today, Sant’Agata is home to an ultra-modern factory covering almost 20,000 square metres, despite a succession of different owners.
