CONNECTING RODS
In mechanics, a connecting rod is a part with two joints, one at each end, designed to transmit a force, movement or position. The connecting rod is the link between the piston and the crankshaft, so it’s vital to check that it’s in perfect condition before reassembling the engine.
Repairing or renovating connecting rods is an essential step to avoid excessive play between them and the crankshaft. The connecting-rod bearings or line bearings cannot accept any approximation of play, and the penalty will be swift and unquestionable: you’ll soon have engine noise or a loss of oil pressure. The connecting rod will also need to be rebagged if necessary, otherwise the piston could slam into the cylinder… This work of plastigraphy, measurement and metrology must be carried out by a professional team to ensure that your future engine runs perfectly!
